Please note that ETF will not be collecting data for SIR going forwards. The Department for Education will be getting in touch with stakeholders regarding the future plans for SIR.

The FE workforce data collection system is changing. Plans have been confirmed by the Department for Education (DfE) to introduce a single mandatory data collection. Further details can be found here.

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the Staff Individualised Record (SIR) data collection over the past seven years, helping both the DfE and the ETF to understand the FE and Training workforce better. Please note the SIR website will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Why submit your annual workforce data? Here are three key reasons:

1. To give policy makers accurate, robust data about the sector workforce
2. To gain use of free, bespoke data analytic tools
3 To help you compare your organisation to other similar providers

Once submitted, SIR data has been aggregated and analysed to show the changing structure and composition of the FE and training workforce, then published as an annual report. This report has informed policies aimed at tackling recruitment issues or skills shortages, for example. You can see trends in demographics, staffing numbers and pay in the latest annual report for 2017/18 below. The annual report for 2018/19 will be published in spring 2020:
