We caught up with Paul Lawton-Jones, MD of Mercury Training Services Ltd, a specialist security training provider with a national client base. Mercury works with some of the largest local authorities in England, including Nottingham, Sheffield and Birmingham City Councils. Paul gave us some useful feedback on the SIR Data Insights Service:
“We submitted our data because benchmarking is important to us.
We like to do everything we should be doing as a responsible employer so we record key data about our staff on an online HR system. We collect most of the data required by the SIR Data Insights service but our system doesn’t display the data in the same visual way.
The SIR Data Insights service gives a nice clean snapshot of our business and the trends in workforce data. It tells us visually what we know. I like it, it’s much easier to read.
Our HR system doesn’t export data into the SIR format, so we prepared our data manually using the template spreadsheet. It took about three hours to put the spreadsheet together. The upload was easy and we got no errors. There was a hitch along the way when we submitted but it got sorted very quickly.
It’s a decent system.
If I had to advise other companies, I’d say as long as you keep good HR records this is a very simple system; it’s been very easy to date.”
